Reading a draw

What a draw is

The bracket: who plays whom, and who the winner plays next.

Seeds

The numbers beside some names are seeds. They exist to keep the strongest entries apart until late, so that the final is not played in the first round. A seed is a position in the draw, not a prediction.

Byes

A draw needs a power of two to fill exactly, and most entries are not. The difference is made up with byes, which go to the top seeds - somebody with a bye goes through to the second round without playing.

On a phone

A bracket on a small screen is unreadable, so the phone shows the matches round by round instead. The draw sheet downloads the diagram to print, or to pinch and zoom.

If the draw is not there

A draw does not exist publicly until it is published. Before that the page is not found - which is deliberate, because a half-made draw on a wall is worse than none.
